Nixon’s Watergate Grand Jury Testimony RELEASED

WOW!!! The truth behind the scandal, this will make one heck of a read. This is history in the making, I am about to print out part 1 & 2 and get to reading. Kudos to the judge ordered the release despite the objection from Obama’s Administration.

LA Times reports — The National Archives and the Nixon Presidential Library & Museum have unsealed long-secret transcripts and other materials from President Nixon’s grand jury testimony.

The Archives on Thursday released 26 files from the Watergate Special Prosecution Force’s collection of documents, including transcripts and “associated materials” from the June 1975 grand jury testimony.

Earlier this year, a U.S. district judge ordered the unusual release of the grand jury testimony over the objection of the Obama administration, which argued against the release to protect people’s privacy.

The grand jury testimony was the one time that Nixon was required by law to speak honestly about the Watergate scandal.

In granting the request for release of the documents, which was submitted by historian Stanley Kutler, Judge Royce Lamberth said it, “would likely enhance the existing historical record, foster scholarly discussion and improve the public’s understanding of a significant historical event.”

Some redactions were made to the documents to protect the privacy of people who are still alive.

Nixon gave his testimony to the grand jury over a period of two days, June 23 and 24, 1975, in connection with a number of investigations that were being conducted by the Watergate Special Prosecution Force.

Among the topics that were discussed was the 18.5-minute gap on the Watergate tapes and Nixon’s ordering of an IRS audit on then-Democratic National Committee Chairman Larry O’Brien.

The Nixon library also released texts and sound recordings, including five transcripts of White House taped conversations from 1971 and 1973. It also opened about 3,000 pages of previously classified national security materials, including Henry Kissinger’s telephone conversation transcripts.

U.S. Troops To Come Home By The End of 2011!!!

Obama announced earlier today that by the end of 2011 our TROOPS will be coming home. Ending a war that has been ongoing for 9 years & killing nearly 4,500 soldiers.

LA Times reports — REPORTING FROM WASHINGTON — President Obama announced Friday that he is bringing all U.S. troops home from Iraq at year’s end, closing out a war that has lasted nearly nine years and killed nearly 4,500 Americans.

The announcement of a complete withdrawal came after the White House and the Iraqi government failed to reach an agreement that would have left some U.S. forces in Iraq to provide security and function as trainers.

The White House said that all of the approximately 40,000 troops now serving in Iraq will come home by the end of 2011. Only a “normal embassy presence” will remain, a White House official said.

“Today I can say our troops in Iraq will definitely be home for the holidays,” Obama said in an appearance in the news briefing room.

Earlier in the day, Obama took part in a secure video conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Malaki, in which the two leaders discussed the pullout.

“During their conversation, Obama and Maliki strongly agreed that this is the best way forward for both countries,” another White House official said.

The end  of the U.S. military’s role fulfills a promise Obama made on the campaign trail in 2008, when he argued that the Iraq war diverted scarce resources from the fight against terrorism at a high cost to taxpayers. The war helped distinguish then-Sen. Obama from his main opponent in the Democratic primaries, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

As a senator, Clinton had voted to authorize the war. Obama, for his part, delivered a speech opposing the U.S. invasion.

Obama made the withdrawal announcement one day after the killing of longtime Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi, a development that some experts say vindicated his strategy for assisting rebel forces. The two conflicts underscore the difference in how Obama and his immediate predecessor wage war.

Where George W. Bush deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein with a massive deployment of U.S. forces, Obama opted for different tactics in Libya, relying on an international coalition, intelligence and airstrikes to help force Kadafi from power.

Herman Cain’s Gain Makes Rick Perry Stumble

This election is going to be an interesting one…if you don’t VOTE you SHOULD!!! Before you do so however, you should really educate yourself (as much as you can) on the candidates running for presidency.

LA Times reports — Herman Cain, the businessman who has never held elected office, has broken into the top tier of Republican presidential candidates in a new poll, running neck-and-neck with Texas Gov. Rick Perry while Mitt Romney has regained his status as the clear frontrunner in the race.

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll found Cain and Perry tied with 16% support among Republican leaning Americans.  Romney leads the field with 25% support. It’s the second time in as many weeks that support for Cain has risen at Perry’s expense.

The same poll had Perry with 29% support in Sept., and Cain with just 4%.  Last month, Cain stunned Perry at a Florida straw poll where he roundly beat the Texas governor with 37% of the vote. Perry landed a distant second place with 15%. Speaking on Fox News Channel’s Fox and Friends on Tuesday, Cain said the poll, “substantiates what happened in Florida.”

“That is great news that says the flavor of the week might have some substance,” he said. “Black walnut isn’t a flavor of the week.”

Perry’s lackluster debate performance in Florida last week could be at least partly to blame: 63% of those who watched the debate said they like Perry less.

Another poll of likely voters in Florida conducted by the Gainesville, Fla. firm War Room Logistics found that Perry’s support fell to 9% after the Florida debate, while Cain’s support surged to 24%. In an earlier poll taken before the debate, Perry had been tied with Romney at about 25%, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Romney’s support increased to 28% after the debate.

Cain’s surge comes at a time when Perry appears to have alienated key demographics, including conservative Republicans and supporters of the tea party movement. Perry’s support from those groups fell considerably while their support for Cain rose, according to the ABC News/Washington Post poll.

Also in that poll, 47% of Republicans and Republican leaning independents said the more they hear about Cain, the more they like him. Nearly as many – 44% — said the more they hear about Perry, the less they like him.

The numbers are even worse for Perry among those who’ve been closely watching the race. Cain is supported by 36% of this group, followed by Romney, with 24% and Perry, with 12%.

Should The White House Start To Panic?

I couldn’t agree more with what James Carville said “For God’s sake, why are we still looking at the same political and economic advisors that got us into this mess? It’s not working.”

LA Times reports — Is it time to panic at the White House? The whispers have begun to grow louder both inside and outside the Beltway that the answer is yes, and that President Obama’s West Wing is in need of a good old-fashioned shakeup.

The loudest voice to date is that of James Carville, the boisterous Democratic strategist who helped put Bill Clinton into the White House in 1992.

Writing at CNN.com, Carville said the results of special elections this week in New York and Nevada call for an urgent response from the president to change course.

“We are far past sending out talking points. Do not attempt to dumb it down. We cannot stand any more explanations,” Carville wrote Thursday.

He outlined a three-point strategy that starts with firing “a lot of people.”

“For God’s sake, why are we still looking at the same political and economic advisors that got us into this mess? It’s not working,” he said.

Reports Friday, though, indicate that some are pointing the finger at one of the newest figures in Obama’s inner circle: Chief of Staff Bill Daley. Politico says unnamed “critics inside and outside the West Wing are questioning whether he is the tough, competent manager needed to shake up the operation and propel Obama into the 2012 election year.”

Thursday night, the Huffington Post said “Democrats on the Hill and even in the White House are struggling with a mysterious emotion: They miss Rahm Emanuel.”

This kind of hand-wringing is to be expected given where the president’s poll numbers are. His evening speech to a joint session of Congress was viewed by more than 30 million Americans, but failed to jolt his approval rating. Gallup’s tracking poll showed no “bump” from the speech, and that his job rating is down to 39% as of Thursday.

And the jobs plan he announced, while well received during his campaign-style events in swing states, has yet to gain steam even with some Democrats in Congress.

His advocacy of “green jobs” also is under fire, with questions about whether his top aides pressured budget officials to fast-track a loan to now-defunct solar company Solyndra.

Obama has routinely resisted calls such as Carville’s to shake things up based on what he sees as short-term setbacks. At fundraising events Thursday night, he said he was confident he would weather the storms.

“If you need some inspiration, watch the Republican presidential debates,” he joked at one event.

“This is one of those times where all of you are going to have to be my ambassadors over the next several months, to make sure that people who I think continue to believe in change and continue to believe in hope are mobilized effectively in 2012,” he said at another. “If you’re there with me, then I’m confident that we’ll have an inauguration.”

Daryl Hannah Arrested At The White House

TMZ reports — Daryl Hannah donned a familiar accessory outside the White House today — HANDCUFFS — after she was arrested during an oil pipeline protest.

The actress-turned-activist was busted with several other protesters — when they sat on the sidewalk in front of the White House and ignored three requests by police to move.

Daryl’s an old pro when it comes to getting arrested  — saying, ” Sometimes it’s necessary to sacrifice your freedom for a greater freedom. And we want to be free from the horrible death and destruction that fossil fuels cause, and have a clean energy future.”

Hannah was famously arrested after she stopped traffic in West Virginia in 2009 — blocking a busy street during a protest over mining practices.
