SPORTS: Football Star Junior Seau Found Dead In Apparent Suicide

Hmmm this sounds a bit odd to me…I hope it doesn’t turn out to be the girlfriend. Whatever demons were eating at him I hope he made peace before he took his life.

LA Times reports —Former USC and San Diego Chargers football star Junior Seau was found dead Wednesday by his girlfriend in the bedroom of his beachside home of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Few details were immediately available. TV footage showed police swarming the Oceanside home in North San Diego County and people comforting each other.

Oceanside police didn’t have any immediate comment about what was happening at Seau’s home but are expected to provide details soon.

The San Diego Chargers sent out a message on Twitter that said: “Due to the current reports about Junior Seau, today’s season ticket-holder conference call with Head Coach Norv Turner has been canceled.”

In 2010, Seau was involved in a crash near his home when the sport-utility vehicle he was driving went over a beachside cliff. The accident occurred after he was arrested in Oceanside on suspicion of domestic violence.

Seau, an All-American at USC and 12-time NFL Pro Bowl linebacker, played 13 seasons with the San Diego Chargers and three seasons with the Dolphins. He left the game briefly but then signed and played with the New England Patriots before calling it quits for good in 2010.

“He was a local hero — he certainly gave back to the community and to the youth through his Junior Seau Foundation,” Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood told the North County Times. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”

SPORTS: Jets Acquire Tebow in Trade With Broncos

NY Times reports — Tebowmania is headed to New York. In a move that diversifies their offense but threatens to undermine Mark Sanchez, the Jets on Wednesday traded for Tim Tebow, the popular but polarizing quarterback from the Denver Broncos.

Tebow was made expendable when the Broncos signed Peyton Manning this week. The Jets received Tebow and a seventh-round pick in the deal, and sent a fourth- and a sixth-round pick to Denver. Tebow will ostensibly run only a handful of plays per game, but the Jets view him as a component of their new run-oriented offense, engineered by the first-year coordinator Tony Sparano, who popularized the Wildcat formation when he was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

In helping to guide Denver to an A.F.C. West title last season, Tebow authored several last-minute comebacks, including a 95-yard drive that silenced the Jets on Nov. 17. That success, achieved despite an unconventional style and limited throwing skills, could divide a fan base with the first poor — or even average — performance by Sanchez.

The Jets recently affirmed their loyalty to Sanchez, after briefly flirting with Manning, by giving him a new five-year contract with $20.5 million guaranteed.

Sports News: The Colts Are To Release Peyton Manning

LA Times reports — Peyton Manning has made far more than his share of spectacular comebacks in his NFL career.

This time, however, the clock has run out on him.

The Indianapolis Colts will release Manning on Wednesday, parting ways with the only four-time most valuable player in league history.

The team has scheduled a news conference for 9 a.m. PST.

Manning sat out the 2011 season after undergoing multiple neck surgeries, and the Colts finished 2-14, securing the No. 1 pick in April’s draft. By all indications, the franchise intends to use the top pick on Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.

Manning, who turns 36 this month, has said he intends to continue his career, either in Indianapolis or elsewhere. Neither he nor Colts owner Jim Irsay could be reached for comment.

“It’s a shock to me if the Colts let him go,” Hall of Fame coach John Madden told The Times on Tuesday. “I could never see Peyton Manning playing anywhere except as an Indianapolis Colt.

“I thought all this past season he’d come back and play. It got right to the end of the season, just a couple of games left, and I thought he even may play in one of those games. Obviously that wasn’t close. Then even in the off-season I thought something would get worked out and he’d be a Colt. But if this happens, it’s going to be a shock to me.”

Among the teams expected to bid for his services are the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets. All of those teams probably would insist on incentive-filled contracts that hedge against the possibility that Manning does not recover sufficiently from his neck problems.

But one NFL team executive predicts Manning will get the type of money to which he’s accustomed.

“It’s not going to be a cheap deal, believe me,” the executive said. “He’s going to get paid. He’s not going to get $20 million, but he’ll have a chance to make that up with playing time to where he’d be made whole if he plays like he’s played.”

Under the terms of Manning’s existing deal, the Colts would have to pay him a $28-million roster bonus to keep him. Team doctors have not cleared him to return to football, although his personal doctors have.

Manning has been engaged in not-so-secret workouts at Duke University, and a grainy, short video clip appears to show him throwing the ball well. So far, however, most of the reports come in the form of rumors and speculation.

“My plan hasn’t changed,” Manning said during Super Bowl week. “I’m on track with what the doctors have told me to do, and I’m doing that. I’m rehabbing hard.”

At the scouting combine last month, Luck was asked about the challenge of replacing a first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback.

“Peyton was my hero growing up,” he said. “He was my football hero. That’s who I modeled myself after in high school, middle school, whatever it was. You never truly replace a guy like that. And who knows what happens? So many different things can happen. I’m not thinking about it too much right now.”

Where should Donovan McNabb spend the rest of the season?

LA Times reports — Donovan McNabb is no longer a member of the Minnesota Vikings. In case you’re having trouble keeping up, he is also no longer a member of the  Philadelphia Eagles or the Washington Redskins.

For a guy who spent the first 11 years of his NFL career in Philadelphia — taking the Eagles to four NFC championships and one Super Bowl appearance — McNabb has become quite the journeyman lately. He was traded during the 2010 off-season to the Redskins, who released him after just one season.

He was picked up by Minnesota, where he lasted just six games as a starting quarterback (going 1-5 with only four touchdowns and five passes of 25-plus yards) and 11 games overall. The Vikings released McNabb on Thursday, a decision Coach Leslie Frazier described as mutual.

So what now for McNabb? The Chicago Bears and Houston Texans are two teams that jump to mind as possible destinations. Both are playoff contenders with issues at the quarterback position. The Bears very well could be without injured starter Jay Cutler for the rest of the year, and backup Caleb Hanie struggled in his first start last week.

The Texans have lost their top two quarterbacks — Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart — to injuries. But the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the team has no immediate interest in McNabb, with Coach Gary Kubiak apparently willing to stick with T.J. Yates as his starter.

The Dallas Cowboys, another playoff contender, also could use the services of someone like McNabb. While they are set with Tony Romo as their starter, backup Jon Kitna has been having back problems the last several weeks and might be out for the season.

The Bears and Cowboys are said to have put in waiver claims on quarterback Kyle Orton, who was cut last week by the Denver Broncos and eventually was awarded to the Kansas City Chiefs. If both teams make a run at McNabb on the waiver wire, Dallas would have priority over Chicago based on record and strength of schedule.

Where do you think McNabb should spend the rest of the 2011 season? With one of the teams mentioned above, or is there another you think could use his services? Or do you think it’s time for the veteran quarterback to call it quits? After all, things haven’t worked out so well with his last two teams.

Weekend Recap

“Not all of them are the brightest of human beings.”

RIP AL DAVIS (former Owner of the Raiders), passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011.

“He is a true legend of the game whose impact and legacy will forever be part of the N.F.L.,”

Roger Goodell, the league’s current commissioner, said in a statement Saturday.

Paul McCarney got married for the 3rd time in his life to Nancy Shevell in London this past weekend. The couple were engaged earlier this year, they met in the Hamptons in Long Island, New York, shortly after the singer’s divorce from Heather Mills in 2008.

Raiders beat the first-place Texans in Houston, 25-20, and now have a winning record. Oakland hasn’t been above .500 this late in the season since 2002.

DRAMA!!! I don’t know if you caught Kim Kardashian’s “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding” last night, it seemed far from a FAIRTYTALE. I am not sure about Kris Humphries, he seems to be such an immature pompous a**hole!!!

Khloe was calling him out the entire 2hours of  PART 1…she called him “opportunistic”, he was given a fair warning by the MEN of the Kardashian Klan to just SHUT IT UP, but he is a stubborn fella! He left a bad taste in Kris Jenner’s mouth, when he was late showing up to their (Kim & Kris’) bridal registry.

Kourtney and Khloe aren’t too certain what his intentions are & to be honest they aren’t really giving him a “chance” but I don’t blame them. He acts like a KID!!! What Kim sees in him I have NO idea, he seems to think he is running shit…but BOO BOO like Khloe said “You came up off KIM, already” NO ONE knew who you were until now!!! You have become a household NAME, so you should be kissing asses as opposed to being an ASS!!!

KHLOE & KRIS:

“I’m not really sure of the intentions in this entire situation,” Khloe explained to Kris, with Kardashian pal Brittny Gastineau as a witness. “I just hope that everyone is thinking it through. I’m hoping your intentions are pure.”

“What are you trying to say, I like this world?” Kris fired back.

“It’s just very opportunistic of you… you have come up off of Kim,” Khloe responded.

And then Kris turned the tables, putting the spotlight on Khloe’s marriage to Lamar Odom.

“How dare you question someone else’s marriage,” he said. “Are you sure you’re not just using Lamar? He’s a Laker… he’s got championships. After, are you going to find a tall successful guy to have kids with?”

Khloe explained that she was just trying to protect her sister.

“Kim is someone who falls in love heavy, and when she falls, she [falls] hard,” she said. “Do I believe every time she falls it’s the real deal? She is a hopeless romantic.”

Kris said he is the one who needs to protect his heart.

“You are saying I’m just the fourth or fifth dude for Kim. I’ve never been married. She’s been on that level with every guy she dates,” he snapped back. “Maybe I should question her intentions.” OUCH!!!

Chad Ochocinco Traded!!!

Ahhh SHIT!!! he is going to play for my team THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS!!! I am most definitely looking forward to the football season NOW!!! Wonder how Evelyn feel about this?!?!?

Global Grind reports — Chad Ochocincohas been traded to the New England Patriots.  Having wanted out of Cincinnati for quite some time, Chad will connect with Tom Brady in New England and will definitely be a threat in the AFC East.  Local 12 News in Cincinnati broke the news:

Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has reportedly been traded to the New England Patriots.

Local 12 Sports Director Brad Johansen says all indications from multiple sources he’s spoken to is that the Bengals have agreed to a trade with Patriots for a draft choice…but one that that has not been disclosed. Brad was told that Ochocinco was not released…but rather dealt.

The Bengals had the option on Chad’s final contract year at over $6 million  but believed after last season it was best to part ways. He spent 10 years years here after coming in as a second round pick in 2001.

Donovan McNabb Reportedly Heading to Minnesota Vikings

LA Times reports — Donovan McNabb appears to be headed for his third team in as many NFLseasons — something that would have seemed unheard of not too long ago.

McNabb could be on his way to the Minnesota Vikings, who have agreed to send a sixth-round pick in 2012 and possibly a conditional pick in 2013 to the Washington Redskins for the veteran quarterback, according to a report by Jay Glazer on FOXSports.com.

After spending 11 years as the face of the Philadelphia Eagles — taking the team to four NFC Championships and one Super Bowl — McNabb was traded to Washington before last season. Things didn’t work out so well in D.C., where McNabb was benched twice during the Redskins’ 6-10 season under new coach Mike Shanahan.

The structure of McNabb’s contract is still an issue in the trade to the Vikings. He is due to receive $12.5 million in 2011, so a trade is unlikely without McNabb consenting to a renegotiated deal. Word is that he likely will be cut by Washington if a trade doesn’t happen.

In McNabb, the Vikings will get a veteran starter to hopefully serve as a mentor to first-round pick Christian Ponder. Free-agent quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, a former Vikings starter who served as Brett Favre’s backup in Minnesota the last two seasons, reportedly agreed to terms with Seattle on Tuesday.

Cincinnati Bengals Cedric Benson BEATS His Roommates A**

DAMN…this MFKR got his ass handed to him!!!

CBS reports — Bengals running back Cedric Benson was arrested last weekend on assault charges after a former roommate accused Benson of roughing him up on an Austin, Texas, street corner. It wasn’t Benson’s first run-in with the law, and if nothing else, allowed for another “The Bengals lead the league in arrests” posts.

But according to Benson’s attorneys, the alleged victim was trying to extort money from their client.

“Thomas Crosley, the attorney for Clavens ‘Miami’ Charles, the individual involved in the incident with Cedric Benson this weekend, contacted us yesterday to demand a ‘settlement’ meeting,” Benson’s attorneys said in a statement released Thursday. “This attorney stated that if we did not respond within a short period, Mr. Charles would respond to media requests, including a request for an interview from TMZ. We have learned that Mr. Charles’ representatives have contacted at least one public relations firm to assist them with publicity.”

Benson’s attorneys said that not only is there “nothing to settle with Charles,” but that they “intend to confront Charles in defending the misdemeanor charges against Cedric. Cedric did not act without provocation.”

By Friday morning, PFT had received a statement from Charles’ attorney which, surprisingly, denied the extortion charges leveled by Benson’s attorneys (if we’ve learned anything it’s this: lawyers are remarkably proficient at gumming things up):

“Earlier this week Clavens Charles was the victim of an unprovoked violent assault by Cedric Benson that resulted in his hospitalization,” the attorney’s statement said. “Today Clavens Charles has been the victim of an equally violent media smear campaign by the attorneys representing Cedric Benson. . . . No money demand was ever made to Cedric Benson or his legal counsel. Money was never mentioned by us at any time.”

We have no idea where the truth lies, but as PFT’s Michael David Smith notes, this photo of Charles in the hospital sure makes it look as if he was the victim of a violent crime.

Whatever happens, Benson will be a free agent once the lockout ends, and his latest arrest could affect his NFL future.
