VIDEO: Nas Talks with Artist Direct About “Daughters”

ARTISTdirect.com sat down with legendary rapper Nas for our exclusive “See the Music” series. We asked Nas about his new single “Daughters” from the forthcoming Life Is Good due out July 17. It’s a contemplative ode that retains his signature hard edge.

Speaking of the song, Nas said, “It is the type of sound that I need and I love.”

Having a daughter impacted him greatly, and it’s informing his music. He said that fatherhood “did change my life. It made me more aware of the world and what kind of society we live in, as I am about to see a child grow up into it. Wow.”

He continued, “There is something about women, your mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, daughter. Women are amazing, and the fact that I am responsible for a little one, man… that meant a lot to me to talk about that. It was rough, though. When I did the video, it was emotional.”

He talks about the creation and genesis of the beat, as well. So it’s a full-service “See the Music” where he tells us everything. WATCH THE FULL INTERVIEW
